Driving without insurance

It is the driver's responsibility to make sure they have adequate insurance to drive the vehicle.


This responsibilty cannot be passed on for others to check.


The Court takes driving without insurance very seriously because of the risk of injury/death to other road users.


You can be disqualified from driving for driving without insurances.


There are defences available for this charge however, they are techinal and require expert advice.


Representation before the Court is vital to mitigate the potential consequences of driving without insurance. 


If the Court imposes points and the result is that your licence has 12 or more points accrued in the last 3 years, the Court will disqualify you unless you can establish that being disqualified would cause you exceptional hardship. 


If there is a special reason for driving without insurance then the Court could be persauded  not to impose points.
